As summer in the South Shore and Cape Cod starts and temperatures start to heat up, Comfort Keepers will be featuring tips throughout the month on how the elderly can stay cool and safe on our webpage and Facebook page. The video below provides a hint - WATER. Drink plenty of it!

"... it's the humidity."

No - it's the heat and it's dangerous to the elderly. Arizona  knows the heat and this video has both alarming information, ( According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), heat-related illnesses cause more deaths than hurricanes, lighting, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes combined.) and some great tips on staying safe and staying comfortable.

Being Safe in the Sun

Before you go outside in the summer, make sure you're wearing a sunblock with an SPF value of at least 30, and apply often.  Wide-brim hats, for women & men are an ideal source of personal shade when none is around, plus they cut down on glare to the eyes. And with "fit-overs" you can read outdoors with sunglasses that cover your reading glasses.
